A-10. The word "evaluate" has many different meanings. In algebra, when you are asked to evaluate an expression for a specified value of the variable(s), you are being asked to find the value of the expression. You do this by replacing a variable with a number and calculating the result. For example, if you are asked to evaluate the expression 4x -2 when x = -7, you would put -7 in place of the variable and then calculate: 4 (-7)-2=-30. Evaluate the expressions below for the given values of x and y.
a)6/×+9 if x=3
c) 2xy if x = 5 & y = −3
b) 8x - 3+ y if x=2&y=1
d) 2x² - y if x = 3&y=8
