Does a diagnosis pigeonhole someone? Arguably, any time an object or person is assigned to a category, there is a loss of information about that object or person. The rest of the course is predicated upon the acceptance of the idea that for most purposes the benefits of diagnosis outweigh their costs.
According to most reports, as many as 46 percent of Americans will be diagnosed with a psychological disorder during their lifetime. This figure does not include people with symptoms of a disorder who do not receive a diagnosis.
