the positive outlook on booming job opportunities. While Scott was very excited about the endless possibilities that a career in health care could bring, he was
not sure which type of health care role would best suit him.
Scott was certain that he wanted a health care position that focused on patient information and technology. He decided to do some research on the different
areas he could study and learn more about working with patient data. As Scott flipped through the school catalog that highlighted various major areas of study,
he learned of a specialty area called health information management.
After reading an overview of health information management, the various responsibilities that are handled by professionals in this specialty, and the positive
outlook for employment, Scott knew that this was the best educational route for him. Scott was excited to move forward and quickly enrolled in courses.
On the first day of his Introduction to Health Information Management course, Scott was tasked with writing an essay on the specific type of health information
management role that most interested him. This was a difficult task because he was new to learning about the field. Scott began searching the Internet,
reviewing his textbook material, and found it helpful to talk to professionals that were already active in the field.
After beginning his research, Scott felt very confident that he had a better understanding of the types of roles that professionals in the health information
management field may occupy. Scott found that the roles were diverse and impacted many different aspects of hospital and other alternative setting operations.
After completing the exercise, Scott felt he could honestly see himself wanting to learn more about a variety of positions. As someone new to learning about the
field, Scott was excited that there were so many options for his future career. Scott knew that he would be learning a great deal of material in the coming
months!
