This activity provides an opportunity for you to assess children’ early spelling attempts for evidence of phonetic knowledge. Please consider the relationship between the word as written and the conventional spelling. Refer back to chapter eight descriptions of pre-phonemic spelling, early phonemic spelling, letter-naming spelling, transitional spelling, and conventional spelling.
