Question
1) Give a two-paragraph summary of the main issues that provided the background for the author's study.
2) Make an argument in one paragraph about what "gap(s)" the author identified in the literature review that led him/her to implement his/her study.
3) What are the main hypotheses? What are any independent, dependent, and control variables?
4) Tell me about the subjects: How many are there? What groups were created, and how were they operationally defined? Are there any characteristics of the sample that are important to note? How did they find their subjects?
5) What materials did they need to carry out their study?
6) What were the steps of the procedure, as each subject experienced their participation in the study? You don't have to give every detail. Just give me the barebones idea of what the subjects did from start to finish. If there were any differences in the experiences of people, dependent on the groups to which they were assigned, make that clear.
7) What were the main findings? Did this match the hypotheses? What analyses did the author use to discover the results?
8) In the discussion, what does the author say is the main "message" of the findings? In other words, going back to the literature review from above, the "gap," and the hypotheses, what does the author think the results add to our understanding of the phenomenon under investigation? This should be at least two paragraphs.
9) Finally, what recommendations does the author make for future studies? Why exactly does the author think that these future studies are important? In other words, how would these future studies add further to our understanding or correct errors/ address caveats that the author admits about his/her study?
10) In one paragraph, give me at least one critique of this study that the author does not address in the discussion section, that you think could be addressed in a future replication.
