As WBR's resident photographer I am privileged to see firsthand the impact bicycles have on the lives of our recipients. Wheels of Change is a book about history, but today bicycles still empower women. I have met many in Zambia who tell me the bicycle has changed their lives, saved lives, gotten the sick to clinics, brought goods to market and made day-to-day things a whole lot better. Mary Lewanika, a student living in rural Zambia, is having a profound experience in being empowered to steer her own course. At 17, in 2009, Leawnika was the very first student to receive a World Bicycle Relief bike.
