Step 1: Read the Job Description
You see the following job description on an employment website you subscribe to:

Agricultural worker needed. Worker will be responsible for operating equipment to plant, harvest, and maintain crops. Experience with precision agricultural technologies preferred. Mechanical skills and knowledge of crop requirements preferred. Worker will also be responsible for performing physical labor to care for a variety of farm animals, including cows, sheep, chickens, goats, and horses. Knowledge about proper feeding and reproduction care required. Worker should be able to track animal care and reproduction using appropriate software. Job requires 12+ hour days for 6 days each week. Compensation and benefits negotiable depending on experience and skills.

Step 2: Apply for the Job
You realize that you have the required skills and some knowledge of the preferred skills, so you decide to apply for the job. Create a resume and cover letter that you will send to the potential employer. Make sure to address each item in the job description. Your resume should be only one–to two-pages, and the cover letter should be no longer than one page. Use formal written communication techniques.

The resume and cover letter will most likely need to include made-up information to match the skills in the job description. Your resume and cover letter should assume that you have the required skills for this position. The goal is to focus on practicing resume and cover letter writing, not on your current personal job skills. So be creative!
