Thomas Edison made history when he created the phonograph. It was completed in 1877. With the phonograph, Edison was able to record the first human voice. The phonograph, in time, led the way to create a record, or music album. A record album is a collection of music tracks that distributes an artist’s music with the public. The first collection of music to be called an album was Tchaikovsky’s . It was released in 1909 as a four-phonograph-discs album.
From there, the album soon switched from phonograph records to vinyl records. Vinyl records held up to 23 minutes of music on each side. This format later changed to compact discs (CDs). All of these types of recording discs allowed music artists to share their music. Now, the discs can be sold in stores, at live concerts, or on the artist’s Web site.
