Directions, Part 1: Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech is one of the most famous historical speeches in America. Using the Internet or your school library, locate video or audio of King delivering the speech. Watch the entire speech and use the Text Editor to answer the following questions:

What is his body language like?
Is his voice loud or quiet? Does it get louder at any particular point? Why do you think that is?
What kind of tone does he use?
What rhetorical devices do you recognize? Cite some specific examples from the speech and explain the effect they have on you as an audience member.
Directions, Part 2: Once you have watched the speech, find a transcript of it either online or in your school library and identify a section you feel was the most powerful or effective in communicating his message. Memorize that section of the speech and present it to your Contact Teacher using appropriate tone, pacing, and performance techniques to enhance your delivery. The section you choose should be substantial enough to allow you to show how meaningful the section is, demonstrate effective rhetorical techniques, and to show your ability to memorize and deliver a section of text effectively. If possible and appropriate, use visual aids like images, video, audio, etc. to enhance your performance.
