Acid is known to be bad for teeth, because it erodes the enamel. But does acid act as a lubricant, reducing wear on teeth when chewing? This question was investigated by Wu et al (2018, in Wear) by exposing 15 different tooth fragments to a constant load in three different solutions: water (pH=7), acetic acid with (pH=3), and diluted acetic acid (pH=5).
