Hi Professor & Classmates,
For my game plan to formalize an enterprise approach for physician & APP onboarding at Atrium Health, there will be workforce changes that must occur to generate successful outcomes.
How far can existing employee roles be used to implement your game plan? What new roles will be needed?
The established onboarding program that supports providers in the Greater Charlotte region (GCR) is comprised of 6 Onboarding Specialists, 1 Senior HR Associate, and 1 Onboarding Manager. At some of the regional locations, there are existing staff that may range from HR Specialists to Project Coordinators that can be converted to support the enterprise onboarding approach. Currently, there is one Onboarding Manager who will be upgraded to a director position due to the increase in scope & complexity.
Under the new structure, the team will be expanded to cover the enterprise by calculating 1 Onboarding Specialist needed for 30 providers to be onboarded. Additionally, there will be one Senior HR Associate for each region to manage administrative needs for each location. The regional teams will report up through the Greater Charlotte Onboarding Director, who is responsible for developing & maintaining the enterprise onboarding program. Existing teammates who have been top performers will benefit from the intrinsic motivation that their work will have a significant impact across our enterprise as they will continue to be looked at as subject matter experts (n.d., JWI 520, Week 8 Lecture Notes).
What type of hiring and training resources will be required to support the new project?
Since this team will operate remotely, a majority of hiring/training will occur virtually. Formal training programs will ensure to review of the established processes for onboarding at each region in preparation for the adoption of the established centralized program currently active in the GCR. Cross-training across enterprise roles will occur with established Onboarding Specialists to help the new teammates understand the complexities & nuances that arise with Provider Onboarding. The Onboarding Director will schedule in-person training at each region with local affiliates to facilitate relationship building & cohesiveness on the team. Each teammate will be informally assigned an onboarding partner to encourage relationship building & ensure all new teammates feel supported during their transition.
How do any changes in employee roles align with the culture and goals of the organization?
These proposed changes will align with the cultural goals of Atrium Health by creating an environment of best practices that can easily be scaled regardless of location. Atrium prides itself on being an integrated healthcare system that bases decisions on evidence-based practice. As such, taking an enterprise approach to onboarding will allow nimble responses to change in the market & shared understanding of internal and external requirements that must be satisfied to support a successful onboarding.
How will you make your slide deck easy to digest and skim through, while still presenting a convincing point of view?
PowerPoint slides have evolved from flashy pages put on the screen to serve as a background of a presentation. More often, presentation slide decks serve as an instrument to quickly disseminate key information that will support a claim being made by the presenter serving as a visual book of the proposal or idea(Duarte, 2019
