Once you have chosen a topic for your instructional speech, the first step is to plan the materals you and your audience will need for the process or activity. The process should use simple materials, ones that your audience already possesses or ones that you can provide for
them.
In the activity that follows, you will make a list of materials needed for your speech. The next step is to plan the steps required for the process. Make sure that you consider each step in order from start to finish. Use time words, such as first, then, next, and last, to indicate the order of steps. Then, read through your list of instructions as if you had never performed the task or activity before. Determine if you left out any steps or if any steps need more clarification.
