Today, you will practice your close reading skills! Re-read the article from yesterday about
George Washington (George Washington Gave America This Advice). This time, complete
all of the close reading steps.
You may print this article out and write on it, use your computer to add comments, or
submit an organized sheet of notes. If you click the "print" icon at the top of the article,
you can either print or save as PDF to edit on your computer. If you are submitting notes,
use the following section titles:
1. Paragraph Numbers: State the number of paragraphs in the article.
2. Chunks: State the first sentence of each "chunk" you created OR note the number of
paragraphs in each chunk. You could say "Chunk 1: Paragraphs 1-3."
3. Keywords/New Words: Note any keywords in the article. Note any new words with a
short definition.
4. Summaries: Write your short summaries for each chunk.
5. Opinions/Thoughts: Write down the thoughts and opinions you have as you read. You
should have at least one thought or opinion per chunk.
6. Summary/Follow-up Question: Write your one-sentence summary and at least one
follow-up question.
