The Waveland Park Neighborhood Association (WPNA), in partnership with an Urban city in
central lowa, would like to implement stormwater management practices throughout a park
neighborhood. This particular neighborhood is one of the most densely developed
neighborhoods in the state of lowa and is also fortunate to have the largest area of green
space of any neighborhood in the city. This area is used by residents as a kind of park where
residents walk their dogs, sled down the large hills at the golf course, and admire the large
trees in the cemetery. The people of this neighborhood want to take care of their green space
and address the larger issues at hand-runoff at the golf course and cemetery. By helping lead
this effort to educate neighbors and install best management practices in the neighborhood,
the WNPA has been granted $50,000 to improve water quality within the cemetery, golf
course, and the Walnut Creek/Raccoon River watersheds. They are considering the following
options: bioswales, rain gardens, and native landscaping. Which option should they choose?
