Please design a farm quick and choose crops
Task 1 Rubric: Crop Selection
Design a Sustainable Farm
Congratulations on getting your 500-acre farm plot! Now that you are a farmer, you need to decide where your farm is located, your research focus, and what you want to grow on your land. For this initial farm plan, you need to design a farm that can sustainably produce food. Here is the information you need to start planning your farm
Chosen location of farm:
. Local climate. Based on your chosen location
Example: The farm area lies in a humid continental zone and generally has hot summers, cold winters, and wet springs. Temperatures vary widely during the year, with an annual average of 86°F in July and 10°F in January There are, on average, 166 days of full sunshine and 199 cloudy or partly cloudy days. Annual precipitation averages 34.7 inches and annual snowfall averages 30 inches. Relative humidity averages 72%
Wind direction: Based on your chosen location
• Example: Winds typically blow toward the southeast with an average speed of 9 mph.
Acreage/land area: The total farm plot equals 500 acres.
Topography: Your land is flat in the bottomland near a river, but has three hillsides. You will get a topographical (topo) map of your farm plot. You may want to make some extra copies of the map in case you want to try drawing different designs
o Soil type:
o Soil pH: The pH of the soil is approximately
o Soil nutrients.
Nitrogen Potassium Phosphorus
o Permeability:
Other miscellaneous soil information
o Soil depth: The soil depth averages 3 to 5 feet.
• Soil fertility: The soil is slightly sodic (contains more sodium than average).
