Hind says petrol cars are bad because they are _____. quite noisy old-fashioned all dangerous
"Come and see our new car!" cried Maryam happily when she arrived home. Hind and Khalifa quickly ran outside. They couldn't wait to see it.
"It looks really fantastic, Mum," said Hind.
"It's very stylish, but there's something different about it too. Is it an electric car?" asked Khalifa. "I thought you said you'd never buy an electric car!"
"I liked the modern design of the car more than the traditional petrol cars," said Maryam, "and actually, electric cars are becoming more and more popular. No one else in our neighbourhood has one. I really wanted to be the first!"
"Aren't they expensive?" Khalifa asked. "I've heard that they could run out of power when you're driving too. I think that's the worst thing that could happen! It could be really dangerous, Mum! I don't think you should have bought one," he looked extremely concerned.
"Relax, Khalifa," his mother replied. "The technology in electric cars has been getting better and better since they were first made. These days, they're very safe and much cheaper to buy."
"You don't know the best thing about electric cars," interrupted Hind. "I've been reading about them. They've been developed as an option to petrol cars. Petrol cars can harm the environment, but electric cars don't let gasses go into the air like traditional cars do. They're quieter than petrol cars too, so there's less noise pollution. Continuing research shows that electric cars are up to 30% better for the environment, which is great. The technology used in electric cars hasn't been finalised yet either. I'm sure it'll improve even more in the future."
"That's good, Hind. You've taught me something new," said Maryam.
Khalifa began to look angry. "But what about the batteries in electric cars?" he said. "They use materials that are extremely damaging to the environment. When the batteries are finished, they can create problems. They could take years and years to break down into pieces and disappear. The best thing would be to create other transport solutions rather than continue to use personal cars!"
"I didn't know about that either, Khalifa, but let's just enjoy the new car instead of arguing," said Maryam.
