Frederick douglass grew up in Maryland. He was enslaved, or living in slaved. He never knew his father, and got separated from his from his mother. In 1938 he ran away to the north when he was 20 years old. In New York City he married Anna Murray. In new bedford Frederick changed his last name to douglass to protect himself against slave catchers. But he also discovered a group called abolitionists who want end slavery and help other black people to escape. In 1841 Massachusetts Frederick was surprised when he had to speak and his speech a motivating that he became a lecture. finally he made a autobiography that made him more famous.
