Consider a PV module consisting of 64 series connected cells. A solar installer has several of these modules lying on the roof and thinks it may be a good idea to short each module until they are ready to be installed, to eliminate the risk of electric shocks. However, after a while he notices that one of the modules shows signs of damage which appears to be due to excessive heating of the module in the location of one particular cell. Looking more closely, he notices that a small leaf had fallen on the module above the cell. Can you explain what might have happened? (Hint: under short circuit conditions, no electrical p isower is extracted from the module, and any electrical power generated by one cell must be dissipated elsewhere in the module).
