A parallel-plate capacitor has area A=100 mm², distance between conductor plates d=3 mm, and relative permittivity ϵᵣ =12 for the dielectric between the plates.
1. Find the capacitance.
2. The capacitor is connected to a 6 V battery across the capacitor. Compute the fields E and D in the space between the plates, the amount of charge Q on each of the plates, and the total stored
electrostatic energy in the caparitor.
3. With the battery still connected, the dielectric is removed so the space between the plates is left with air. Recalculate the four quantities in the question above.
4. Compare the two seis of quantities. If the charge and the energy in one case is less than the other where do missing charge and energy go?
