Lear is a retired King who does not see who truly loves or looks out for him.
In act 1, King Lear wants to split and give the largest portion of the kingdom
of whoever shares their love the most between his three daughters. Little
does Lear know that his youngest daughter Cordelia is his only daughter that
loves Lear the most even though Cordelia refuses to share her love with her
father. As for Lears other daughter Goneril, she shares 'Sir, i love you more
than word can wield the matter, dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty... A
love that makes breath poor, and speech unable" (Shakespeare 11). The two
eldest daughters Regan and Goneril want to take control over Lear and use
him as a fishing hook to reel him into madness. Throughout the play, Lear's
madness is represented through tempests and his soldiers as metaphors to
show his progression into insanity. There are similarities between King Lear
and Anakin as they are manipulated, progression of anger, and hatred to
revenge for themselves.
