People who lived in Athens, called Athenians, used the nearby town of Piraeus
(Ple-RAY-us) as a port for their ships. Athenians built the Long Walls to
connect Athens to Piraeus. Athenians built these walls so that an enemy army
could not cut off their city from the sea.
