As a radiation therapist, you will use directional and regional terminology to express what you see in a radiological image. You must know the terms in tables 1.1 and 1.2 like the back of your hand. These will become part of your regular vocabulary when you are treating patients, and I want us to begin using these terms on a regular basis in class. In order to help you learn these terms, I would like you to pick 12 terms from these tables and tell me how you will remember these terms. Create a bullet point list starting with the term, and follow the term with phrases that explain your understanding/trick to remembering its meaning. For example: Distal = distant. Both words start with the same five letters, so I associate distal with something that is away or distant from a reference point. Lateral = When I go to the gym, I work on my lats. The lats are on the sides of the flank. Lateral refers to structures on the sides, away from the middle. Plantar = This term reminds me of plantar fasciitis, a condition I have had in the past. This condition affects the soles of my feet, so I know that plantar refers to the sole of the foot. Those are just a few examples. I want you all to be creative! I know you have heard some of these terms before- whether it was in a song, movie, video game, or doctor’s office. Have you used any of these terms before
