Description for Health-Related Fitness and Nutritional Analysis (Journal):
The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a plan to improve one or more of the
health-related components of fitness. The purpose of this project is also to analyze one’s current dietary intake and make recommendations that would promote compliance with the U.S. Dietary Guidelines.
Keep a fitness and nutrition journal for at least fourteen consecutive days. Record how you address the components of fitness and wellness in your everyday life. Your journal should include three components to be addressed each day; nutrition (record everything you eat and drink), physical activity(from walking up the stairs to structured exercise), and stress (keep track of stressors – those things – big and small – causing you stress and, how you manage your stress). In addition to these three components, provide journal entries for any other component of wellness that affects you each day (e.g., hours of sleep, doctor’s appointments, spiritual wellness, personal safety, health education, etc.) After seven days review your journal entries and identify at least two areas of wellness where you think you should make improvements, and then set specific and measurable goals in order to make specific lifestyle changes. For example, you may decide to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, or to begin a walking program, or to stop eating sweets and sodas, etc. Again, these changes should be framed in specific goals; for example, I will eat two pieces of fruit, and two servings of vegetables each day, or I will walk 10,000 steps each day, etc.). These changes would then be evident in your journal. Do the best you can to maintain these changes in lifestyle for at least the following seven days.
-Upon completion of the fourteen-day journal, write a two-page double spaced analysis of the experience.
-Discuss any observations you may have made, things you may have learned, the changes you made and why, how successful you were with the changes, whether you plan to make these changes a permanent part of your lifestyle and so on.
