GOAL: The student will develop a consistent customer profile for a specific market segment utilizing student’s choice of a print or online advertisement.

Step 1: Choose a print advertisement (from a magazine or an online source) to work with. Be sure to make a choice that clearly targets a specific market or targets multiple segments of a larger market. Cut out the advertisement or print it out if you find it online.

Step 2: Remember many companies identify multiple segments of the market and develop a profile for each segment. Choose a specific target segment for the advertisement. Develop a customer profile for that segment by identifying demographic, psychographic, and geographic factors that match that target segment. (Follow the rubric below)

Step 3: Identify specific buying patterns associated with the target market segment.

Step 4: Complete your customer profile by creatively presenting your information in the form of a report. This may be done as one of the following:

a written report (MLA format) with the advertisement attached or
an “art” project on construction paper or poster board
