"Aloha, Hani," she says as I walk up the steps to the
porch.
"How'd you know it was me?" My heart pounds like a
hammer in my chest. I settle down in a rocking chair. The
cool ocean breeze swirls catlike around my legs.
"Your footsteps are lighter than your brother's," she
says, offering me a slice of homemade haupia pie. No one
bakes like Auntie.
