Empowering health professionals to address social determinants of health (SDH) is a critical component of community-based education for students. Building partnerships between community-based organizations (CBOs) and academic programs, as well as enhancing curricula to support knowledge and skill acquisition, helps to create community-based training that benefits students. An interdisciplinary community health experience entitled ENHANCE (Engaging in Health Advocacy through Neighborhood Collaborative and Education) was launched at a university that is part of a large healthcare system to assist their health professional students with establishing CBO partnerships. One of these partnerships is with the local YMCA. A health professor who works in the College of Health Professions at the university has received a request for proposal (RFP) from the YMCA. The premise of the grant is to improve wellness resources for employees in the healthcare system. The YMCA is looking to share their recreation facilities with the healthcare system employees at a discount in return for local community members being able to come to nutrition and fitness education programs at the healthcare centers. Part of the grant is to improve healthier food options in the YMCA and within the healthcare centers. The health system recently conducted a full physical on all of their employees and found that 55
