One way that these judges were able to accomplish this was by closing the county facility, so it appeared as they had no choice but to send children to these facilities. Where the juvenile system failed was allowing these judges to have unchecked power when it came to sentencing. I am sure that the juveniles and lawyers protested some of these sentences however the way that the court system is built all they could do was appeal the decision after the fact. The message that this sends to society is that the justice system is broken, and the judges cannot be trusted as they may be corrupt. Sadly, this is an inevitability. As long as there is the human factor within the justice system there will be corruption. Some steps that can be taken to avoid this in the future is have standardized sentences when it comes to juveniles. What is one way that these judges were able to accomplish this?
1) By closing the county facility
2) By appealing the decision
3) By protesting the sentences
4) By having standardized sentences
