Lindner offers to buyout Walter so that the family does not move into the Clybourne Park neighborhood. The money offered is significant and would be a great help to the family especially after they lost the money from the liquor store and for Beneatha's education. If Walter agrees to this buyout, he feels as though he would be losing his soul. The Clybourne Park Neighborhood Association does not want the Youngers to live in the neighborhood because of their race.
