Papilla
apillae are the small bumps located on the top and sides of your tongue. They’re the same color as the rest of your tongue and, under normal circumstances, are unnoticeable. They give your tongue a rough texture, which helps you eat. They also contain taste buds and temperature sensors. which can distinguish the five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami. They have a core of connective tissue. The four types of papillae on the human tongue have different structures and are accordingly classfied as circumvallate (or vallate), fungiform, filiform, and foliate. All except the filiform papillae are associated with taste buds.[1]
