The theory of continental drift developed in the early 1900s by Alfred Wegener states that the continents are actually moving, and that they were at one time joined together in a single supercontinent.
The idea that continental drift has taken place came up primarily because of study of fossils discovered from different corners of earth. The following fossil evidence supports the idea of continental drift:
-Glossopteris : fossils of the seed fern Glossopteris are found across all of the southern continents. But the plants' seeds were too heavy to be carried across the ocean by wind.
--Lystrosaurus: these were reptiles that lived on land. Both of these animals were unable to swim, let alone swim across wide seas!
