Hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed American bases and Manila in the Philippines. They also attacked Guam which like the Philippines was a U.S. territory. Wake Island is an unorganized, unincorporated territory of the United States which Japan unsuccessful attacked on December 11, 1941. It however fell to the Japanese forces in a second attack 12 days later.
