The accelerating pace of economic
growth in the United States between 1820 and 1850 was as a result of
many factors including advances in technology. Developments such as the
sewing machine resulted in increases in productivity which led to mass
production of clothing in factories. The invention of the telegraph linked
regions of the country by facilitating communication. Railroads linked regions
of the country and facilitated transportation. The steamboat greatly reduced
travel time for goods and people, allowing agricultural and industrial
expansion.
