If a person falls overboard, reduce speed and toss the victim a PFD unless you are sure that he or she is already wearing one. Turn your boat around and slowly pull alongside the victim, approaching the victim from downwind or into the current, whichever side is stronger. Remember to stop the engine.
When a person falls overboard, you should always reduce the speed and toss the victim a PFD (throwable type) and then turn the boat around and slowly pull alongside the victim, approaching the victim from downwind or into the current, whichever is stronger. Later you should stop the engine, pull the victim on board over the stern keeping the wight in the boat balanced especially in small boats.
