Answer

A. Six

Explanation

The Petrarchan sonnet has 14 lines with slightly flexible rhyme scheme.Octave represent the first eight lines that nearly follow  an “abbaabba” rhyme scheme. The sestet has six lines with varying rhyme scheme. Therefore a sonnet has 14 lines, 3 quatrains and then a couplet or 8 line octet followed by 6 line sestet.
