Elpenor asks of Odysseus to remember him and to bury him properly when he leaves. This shows that the ancient Greeks paid a lot of attention to their ancestors and remembering them and that being burred in accordance to gods was an important things. This was explored even more in Antigone for example which was all about proper burial.
