The first one is quotation. Use quotation marks if the line is used together with the indication of its sources. Second is paraphrase, it is when a sentence is restructured from another person's thought. Third is summary, it a concise statement of another person’s thoughts in your own words. Fourth are facts, information and data. Lastly, it is called supplementary information, it is where we put relevant detail if not the entire data cannot be put on.

3. Discuss, summarize, or paraphrase the ideas of an author

The purpose of citation is to let the reader know where the writer obtained information so sources can easily be located and consulted, to show the readers that you have done your research and also to give the original author credit for their hard work. Information that needs to be included in citation such as the name of the book, article, or other resources, the date it was published, information about the journal, and the name of the author.  

There are things that you do not need to cite such as common knowledge, your own ideas or finding, a historical overview that you can find from different resources. Common knowledge is information that people know, information that share by cultural group or certain field and you can find it in multiple resources.
