The Treaty of Paris ended the Spanish-American War. It gave control of the Philippines from Spanish to American rule.

The Treaty of Paris gave control of the Philippines to the United States.

The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1898 by the United States and Spain and it constituted the end of the Spanish American War. It actually was the end of the Spanish Empire and its worlwide dominance. The US started to emerge as the new world power.

Cuba declared its independence, and Spain gave to the US the territories of  Philippines, Puerto Rico and Guam, and the to the US. In fact, the cession of the Philippines took place in exchange for a compensation of $20 million paid by the US to Spain
