Since these are right triangles you can use the pythagorean theorem
a² + b² = c²
a = one leg of the triangle
b = the other leg of the triangle
c = the hypotenuse

1. 4² + 3² = c²
   16 + 9 = c²
   25 = c²
  √25 = √c²
    5 = c
    c = 5cm

2. 5² + 12² = c²
    25 + 144 = c²
    169 = c²
    √169 = √c²
     13 = c
      c = 13in

4. 7² + 9² = c²
    49 + 81 = c²
    130 = c²
    √130 = √c²
    11.4 = c
    c = 11.4cm

5. a² + 10² = 15²
    a² + 100 = 225
    a² = 125
    √a² = √125
    a = 11.2ft
You should be applying the Pythagorean Theorem to all 8 of these problems.

In the first problem,   3^2 + 4^2 = h^2, where h is the length of the hypotenuse.

Then 9+16 = h^2, and h = +sqrt(25) = +5 (answer).
