The depressive state (from bipolar disorder or other) can be treated by a whole battery of antidepressant drugs according to the diagnosis. The most common are serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants (SSRIs), serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), imipramine antidepressants, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

Bipolar disorder is differentiated in several ways. It is an alternation of phases of hypoactivity (depressive phase) and hyperactivity (manic phase), interspersed with normal periods (euthymia).

The antidepressant will decrease the depressive phase, but it will worsen the manic phase, suddenly the subject will express anxiety, a strong feeling of guilt, even aggression, and a suicidal desire ...
