The problem is overdetermined; we'll assume b = 30 cos 23° and ignore the 27.6 approximation.

That leaves h = 30 sin  23° so 

[tex]A = \frac 1 2 bh = \frac 1 2 30^2 \cos 23^\circ \sin 23^\circ = 15^2\sin46^\circ=161.85[/tex]
