Without rain, there would more than likely be no collection of water for animals to drink such as ponds, lakes, rivers, etc. Rain, in addition to providing these animals with water to drink, also provides them with their natural habitats such as fish, mosquitoes, and other water creatures. Without rain, animals would merely perish, and soon, humans would as well.
