If Joe has 5 rabbits and 1/5 of those rabbits are white, then we just have to multiply...
[tex] \frac{1}{5} * 5[/tex]
5 can be transformed into a fraction by simply putting a 1 below it, so the problem looks like this:
[tex] \frac{1}{5} * \frac{5}{1} [/tex]
Now we just multiply the numerators together and then multiply the denominators together. Numerators are the numbers on the top of fractions and denominators are on the bottoms.
[tex] \frac{1}{5} * \frac{5}{1} = \frac{5*1}{1*5} [/tex]
Since any number times 1 equals the same number, the fraction now looks like this:
[tex] \frac{5}{5} [/tex]
Any number divided by itself is 1, so we end up with
[tex] \frac{5}{5} = 1[/tex]
If Joe has 5 rabbits and 1/5 of them is white, then 1 of Joe's rabbits is white.
Hope that helped =)
