A system of institutionalized racial segregation between blacks and whites is termed as apartheid, which existed from 1948 to 1900s in South Africa. Racism and domination were widespread when the National party took over in 1948. The blacks were not provided with any basic amenities. As the apartheid government became stronger in 1994, a black man became the president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
In the speech “Glory and Hope” by Nelson Mandela, mentions the glory, achievements of the blacks, the fight for freedom and struggle that have done for it.
“We have, at last, achieved our political emancipation,”
Further, he speaks of the racial equality that they have achieved. Through his hope, he states that "We must, therefore, act together as united people, for national reconciliation, for nation building, and for the birth of a new world.” Nelson Mandela hopes for unity among people and hope for a stronger nation that builds by whites and blacks.
