  • What aspects of the Baroque style does Rembrandt incorporate in The Return of the Prodigal Son and in the etching Christ Preaching?

The Return of The Prodigal Son is an oil painting by Rembrandt it shows the moment of the prodigal’s sons returns to his father, like the parable in the Bible.

The main message of the painting is to show the parable and the forgiveness that was shown by the father to his son. This idea of forgiveness was preached by Christ and is the main idea of Christianism. This is the main Baroque characteristic, that often used religious mood and human sympathy.

The Protestant devotionalism aimed to bring back the main characteristics of the Christian faith that they claimed that the Catholics lost track. The main characteristic of this in art was to portrait scenes of piety and forgiveness like this painting shows. They also avoided to show images of Jesus or Virgin Mary, they focused on biblical scenes that showed basic Christianism principals.
