Usually the best fit line is written with a hat:

[tex]\hat{y} = 3.8 x + 15.61[/tex]

At x=11.9 we see in the table an observed score of 70.00 First Row, First Box

At x=11.9 we predict 3.8(11.9)+15.61 = 60.83 First Row, Second Box

The residual is [tex]y - \hat{y} = 70.00 - 60.83 = 9.17 \quad[/tex] First Row, Third box

At x=15.1 we see in the table y=65.00 Second Row, First Box

At x=15.1 we predict 3.8(15.1)+15.61 = 72.99 Second Row, Second Box

Residual, difference, 65 - 72.99 = -7.99 Second Row, Third Box
