Most taste buds are located on top surface of the fungiform papillae.
The taste buds or also known as gustatory cells contain taste receptor cells. These taste receptors are found on the upper surface of the tongue around a small structure known as the fungiform papillae.
Among the three types of papillae, the fungiform papillae contains taste buds and sensory cells. They are located primarily at the tip of the tongue which debunks the myth of tongue map where different taste buds for specific types of taste are specifically located.
