The Equator is called the equator because it divides the Earth into two equal halves. Ecuador is named after it, not the other way around. The country is named after the imaginary line. 'Equator' means 'something that makes equal'. (hope this helps)

In Ecuador they call it El Ecuador because in English it’s meaning is the equator which is same for Spanish so the same thing as the name
