The length of a rectangle is 2 inches more than 2 times the width. the perimeter is 76 inches. find the length and the width.

Length (L): 2w + 2

width (w): w

Perimeter (P) = 2L + 2w

                 76 = 2(2w + 2) + 2(w)

                 76 = 4w + 4 + 2w

                 76 = 6w + 4

                 72 = 6w

                 12 = w

Length (L): 2w + 2   = 2(12) + 2   = 24 + 2   = 26

Answer: width = 12 inches, length = 26 inches
