In the mineral quartz or glass there are three types of si-O combined compound. Those are silicon dioxide or silica ([tex]SiO_{2}[/tex]), sodium silicate ([tex]Na_{2}SiO_{3}[/tex]) and calcium silicate ([tex]CaSiO_{3}[/tex]). The preparation of the compounds can be shown as-
1. Si (s) + [tex]O_{2}[/tex] (g)→ Si[tex]O_{2}[/tex] (s)
2. Si[tex]O_{2}[/tex] (s) + NaO (s) → [tex]Na_{2}SiO_{3}[/tex] (s)
3. Si[tex]O_{2}[/tex] (s) + CaO (s) →[tex]CaSiO_{3}[/tex] (s)
As we can see that all the compounds are solid in nature and their composition makes the quartz.
