Deep lesioning
Insertion of a thin insulated wire into the brain through which an electrical current is sent that destroys the brain cells at the tip of the wire is called deep lesioning.
Deep lesioning is a surgical procedure in which a small specific area of the brain is destroyed in order to provide treatment for certain disorders. Deep lesioning are used in the treatment of movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and essential tremor. Several methods such as radiofrequency lesion, radiosurgery and focused ultrasound therapy are used to cause deep lesion.
